This wall hanging is made of botanically printed cotton canvas, it has a layer of wadding/batting and natural colour cotton canvas backing fabric. It is free motion quilted and the binding around the edges was hand-sewn to give it a neat finish.This is a unique artisan product, the fabric was printed with real plants, mostly weeds, in a limited-edition collection titled "Weeds are beautiful".
The plants used were vetches and bindweed foraged on my walks around Lough Neagh in Northern Ireland in September.
The background colour is a warm brown, dyed with tree bark. I wanted to show that plants considered weeds have many uses, and I wanted to showcase their understated beauty by immortalising their shapes and colours on fabric.
The free motion quilting adds a different aesthetic and an organic element to the plant composition, giving it a three dimensional feel.
It would look amazing on any wall . It doesn't have any hooks attached, because everyone has different walls and tastes, so if you would like some hooks attached, please let me know your preference. Otherwise you can attach your own fittings to suit your needs.
